In German. 1967 signed and inscribed first edition, association copy, Verlag Paul Parey (Hamburg, Germany), 6 1/2 x 10 inches tall blue buckram cloth hardcover, gilt lettering to spine, copiously illustrated with black-and-white photographs and drawings, 81 pp. Slight rubbing to covers, and bumping to lower spine cap. Nicely inscribed and signed by the author, renowned German zoologist Erna W. Mohr (1894-1968), the only woman elected an Honorary Member of the American Society of Mammalogists. Inscribed to the prior owner, Dr. James M. Dolan, who served as General Curator at the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park for decades. Dr. Nolan's name and date stamp to title page and name in gilt to lower margin of front cover. Slight creasing, possibly from exposure to moisture, to bottom of pages in first third of volume. Otherwise, very good. ~J~ [1.5P] The bluebuck or blue antelope (Hippotragus leucophaeus) is an extinct species of antelope that lived in South Africa until around 1800. It was smaller than the other two species in its genus Hippotragus, the roan antelope and sable antelope. The bluebuck was sometimes considered a subspecies of the roan antelope, but a genetic study has confirmed it as a distinct species.
