Nicely inscribed and signed by the author, renowned German zoologist Erna W. Mohr (1894-1968), the only woman elected an Honorary Member of the American Society of Mammalogists. Inscribed to the prior owner, Dr. James M. Dolan, who served as General Curator at the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park for decades. Dr. Nolan's name and date stamp to title page and name in gilt to lower margin of front cover. Slight creasing, possibly from exposure to moisture, to bottom of pages in first third of volume. It was smaller than the other two species in its genus Hippotragus, the roan antelope and sable antelope. The bluebuck was sometimes considered a subspecies of the roan antelope, but a genetic study has confirmed it as a distinct species.
