III). ? ?Das erste erhältliche offizielle Zeitungsverzeichniss vom Jahre 1864 enthält 351 Nummern, die nach unserm Grundsatz als Journale gelten, und wir rechnen dazu 24 Blätter, welche nach unserer Tabelle zu jener Zeit schon existirten, in jenem Verzeichniss aber fehlen, wie denn auch unsere Tabelle an 26 Nummern reicher ist als die postamtliche von 1872. Wir erhalten somit für das Jahr 1864 ein Total von 375 Nummern, wodurch das Jahr 1872 [mit 412 Titeln] gegen das erst genannte eine Zunahme von beinahe 10 Prozent aufweist. Die Vermehrung des Nummernversands der abonnirten Zeitungen betrug aber im selben Zeitraum nicht weniger als 60 Prozente. Noch mehr. Unter jenen 351 sind 57 Blätter politischen und 38 andern Inhalts genannt, denen wir heute nicht mehr begegnen, alle die Fälle abgerechnet, wo die blosse Namenänderung oder die Verdrängung durch später entstehende Konkurrenz wahrscheinlich ist. Und bei genauerem Zusehen findet sich, dass das Jahr 1864 bereits 217 politische Zeitungen hatte, so dass in dem Zeitraum von 9 Jahren nur 8 dazu gekommen sind, während die andern sich um 29 vermehrt haben. Die Vergleichung zwischen den Jahren 1864 und 1872 zeigt uns vor Allem und sehr nachdrücklich die Hinfälligkeit journalistischer Unternehmungen.? (p. X). ?
