This part appeared as issues (Lieferung) 1, 2 & 3 in the series. - Text in…German. - - In 1925, Erwin Lindner (1888-1988) began compiling his twelve-volume, groundbreaking work on the systematics and anatomy of the flies of the Palearctic region. The Palearctic climate zone encompasses the land areas of Europe, Asia (north of the Himalayas), North Africa, and the northern and central parts of the Arabian Peninsula. Lindner, an avid collector, participated in many expeditions or traveled and collected independently, for example in Dalmatia, the Gran Chaco, Anatolia, Liguria, East Africa, Italy, Spain, and regions in the European Alps. With the help of many colleagues, he edited the German-language handbook "Die Fliegen der Paläarktischen Region" (The Flies of the Palearctic Region), which describes the systematics and anatomy of more than 100 families of Palearctic flies in twelve volumes, in great detail and richly illustrated. The series is not structured chronologically, but by family. Each volume covers one or more families (e.g., Volume II-1, Volume VIII, Volume X/1). Structure by Lieferung: The volumes are structured into "Lieferungen" (episodes or "numbers"). These episodes were published separately and later bundled into volumes. Although Erwin Lindner was the chief editor, numerous prominent dipterologists (fly specialists) contributed to the individual families.

The Palearctic climate zone encompasses the land areas of Europe, Asia (north of the Himalayas), North Africa, and the northern and central parts of the Arabian Peninsula. Lindner, an avid collector, participated in many expeditions or traveled and collected independently, for example in Dalmatia, the Gran Chaco, Anatolia, Liguria, East Africa, Italy, Spain, and regions in the European Alps. With the help of many colleagues, he edited the German-language handbook "Die Fliegen der Paläarktischen Region" (The Flies of the Palearctic Region), which describes the systematics and anatomy of more than 100 families of Palearctic flies in twelve volumes, in great detail and richly illustrated. The series is not structured chronologically, but by family. Each volume covers one or more families (e.g., Volume II-1, Volume VIII, Volume X/1). Structure by Lieferung: The volumes are structured into "Lieferungen" (episodes or "numbers"). These episodes were published separately and later bundled into volumes. Although Erwin Lindner was the chief editor, numerous prominent dipterologists (fly specialists) contributed to the individual families.
