Der Journalist Erwin Scharf war von 1934 bis 1938 Funktionär der illegalen Revolutionären Sozialisten, befand sich von 1938 bis 1940 in Haft und war anschließend als Partisan in Südkärnten aktiv. Von 1945 bis 1948 war Scharf SPÖ-Zentralsekretär. Wegen der Herausgabe der Zeitschrift des Bundes Sozialistischer Freiheitskämpfer, ?Der Kämpfer? (mit Karl Mark und Hilde Krones), für die eine Genehmigung eingeholt hätte werden müssen, wurde im April 1948 ein Schiedsgericht gegen Erwin Scharf eingesetzt, das zunächst ein Jahr Redeverbot verhängte. Scharf entschied sich für eine offene Konfrontation mit dem Parteivorstand. Nach der Veröffentlichung einer Streitschrift wurde er wegen seines Eintretens für eine engere Zusammenarbeit mit der KPÖ im Schnellverfahren aus der Partei ausgeschlossen. Scharf gründete daraufhin die ?Partei der Linkssozialisten?, die auf einer gemeinsamen Liste mit den Kommunisten kandidierte und 1956 in die KPÖ eingegliedert wurde. Scharf war von 1945 bis 1948 (SPÖ) und von 1949 bis 1953 (LB) Abgeordneter zum Nationalrat und arbeitete von 1957 bis 1965 als Chefredakteur der kommunistischen ?Volksstimme?
