Profusely illustrated, with numerous wood engravings, hand-colored frontispiece and plates, ornamental hand-colored title preceding the printed title-page. Hardcover, bound in original red pictorial cloth with gilt lettering to spine, black tooled decorations, and gilt tooled fox to spine and gilt horse & rider to front cover. In very good condition overall. Binding is firm and square. Frontispiece and pictorial title-page are foxed, some scattered foxing to pages and plates. Two pages have a previous owner's lightly pencilled marginal notations, which could easily be erased. Rear hinge is starting but binding remains secure. General shelf-wear and light rubbing to boards, a little spotting to back cover. Gilt remains sharp and bright. A handsome copy overall, now protected in a custom-made clear archival dustwrapper.
