Edition originale rare de cette curieuse pièce dans laquelle la dame de compagnie Jacqueline de Voyer, dite d'Escoman du nom de son mari (vers 1585- vers 1618) accusait sa maîtresse Henriette d'Entragues, marquise de Verneuil (1579-1633), d'avoir organisé un complot avec le duc d'Épernon ayant abouti à l'assassinat d'Henri IV par François Ravaillac. L'histoire est rocambolesque : peu avant la Noël 1606, elle aurait assisté à la rencontre d'Henriette d'Entragues et du duc d'Épernon, et les aurait entendu conclure un pacte en vue d'assassiner Henri IV, ancien amant de la marquise de Verneuil Ce complot aurait eu pour objectif de placer sur le trône du royaume de France le fils d'Henri IV et de la marquise. L'Espagne aurait été mêlée à ce complot, des lettres partant régulièrement du château de Verneuil vers ce pays. De 1607 à 1609, elle aurait plusieurs fois rencontré Ravaillac, lequel, selon ses déclarations, allait et venait dans l'entourage d'Henriette d'Entragues. Arrêtée le 17 janvier 1611, elle fut condamnée à une peine d'enfermement à perpétuité, échappant de peu à une condamnation à mort pour lèse-majesté. Enfermée au couvent des Filles repenties de Saint-Magloire, rue Saint-Denis à Paris, elle décéda dans l'oubli à une date incertaine. La publication de ces allégations à la date tardive de 1616 s'explique par des raisons politiques liées à la régence de Marie de Médicis : le texte du Manifeste fut diffusé à l'initiative de magistrats du Parlement de Paris afin d'affaiblir la régente et le duc d'Épernon. L'historiographie des XIXe et XXe siècles verra généralement en la demoiselle d'Escoman une affabulatrice.SHF, Hauser, 3278 (cite la pièce uniquement d'après le recueil de Cimber et Danjou). Edition Originale rarissime de l'un des deux témoignages contemporains visant à démontrer que Ravaillac n'avait pas agi seul et que l'assassinat de Henri IV fut le fruit d'un complot qui impliquait diverses personnalités dans l'entourage du roi. Jacqueline de Voyer d'Escoman était une femme de chambre de la Marquise de Verneuil, qui prétendit que sa maîtresse s'était mise d'accord avec le duc d'Epernon pour commanditer l'assassinat du roi. Mais les inexactitudes de son récit, ainsi que sa moralité réputée douteuse, firent rejeter sa version et elle fut condamnée pour diffamation. "La d'Escoman fut donc emmurée: on lui bâtit, chez les Filles repenties, une cellule garnie d'un étroit grillage; effroyable châtiment qui la retranchait du monde des vivants" (Loiseleur).
