Binding remains firm. Pages and illustrations have light tanning and foxing throughout. Pencil inscription to front free endpaper. Boards have light shelf-wear with corner bumping. Slight crushing to spine ends. Unclipped jacket has heavy edgewear with areas of loss, heavy tears, chips, and creasing. Light tanning to spine and edges. Foxing overall.

The pages are clean, bright illustrations and crease free, with some tanning around edges. This book has unnumbered pages. All in all a nice example of this book.

This copy is in very good plus condition quarter bound in tan cloth to the spine, with black titling, to colour illustrated paper covered boards, there is some bumping to the extremities. There is a neat gift inscription to the front paste down, a dust wrapper is not called for. The text block is unmarked, tight, white, bright and square. International postal rates are calculated on a book weighing 1 Kilo, in cases where the book weighs less then postage will be reduced accordingly. Susan Beatrice Pearse (19 January 1878 - 1980) was a British illustrator of children's books best known for the Ameliaranne series of books. This series of 20 children's books was published between 1920 and 1950 by George G. Harrap of London. It was unusual as it involved eight different individual authors working with a single illustrator. Ameliaranne Stiggins was the oldest daughter of a poor washerwoman, Mrs Stiggins who also had five other children. There is no mention in the Ameliaranne cannon of a "Mr Stiggins". The Ameliaranne stories are simple tales of a young girl faced with a new or difficult situation that requires her to use some imagination and ingenuity to resolve. The books are remarkably consistent, given their different (all female) authors, but their real strength and the source of their lasting appeal are the charming illustrations by Susan B Pearce. The text is quite limited in the books and the narrative is largely carried by the very effective and expressive illustrations. Ref UU6.
