The author, a young Etonian, took advantage of his family's trip to the International Oriental Congress to explore Europe, describing the sights and people he encountered along the way. The author's keen eye for detail and observations on the differences between English and European culture make for a lively and engaging travelogue that captures the spirit of 19th-century European travel. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

A previous owner (Tim D'Arch Smith) notes: "One wonders whether the outfield was quite as uneven as our artist has depicted it. Certainly the wicket was not of the best although the Valse Õs dedicatee managed to hit three sixes as Lord Harris remembers: ÔI was in with him at the time. He had just previously hit one against the old Armoury É and one over D block, and when he followed these big hits Ð very big for a boy Ð by that astounding drive over the pavilion I thought it was all right for Eton, but he was bowled by a shooter almost the next ball.Õ The composer died the following year, 24 September 1869. He was the youngest son of the distinguished shipbuilder Joseph dÕAguilar Samuda. Padwick 6563-1 although not identifying the composer.
