Exposats de forma sumària la mentalitat des d'on Estada escrigué la seva Ciudad de Palma, la seva peripècia biogràfica i les fonts d'informació, convé, ara, dir unes paraules sobre quina era la finalitat que tenia l'escrit i quina casta d'arguments emprà. L'haurem de fer encara de forma més breu que les parts anteriors si no volem reproduir en aquesta introducció el que toca ser dit en el llibre. Així, i de manera gairebé telegràfica, podem dir que Estada escrigué el llibre amb una doble finalitat. La primera fou guanyar adictes a la solució d'enderrocar les murades que encerclaven o, com deien els ja convençuts, constrenyien la Ciutat de Palma. La segona finalitat era demostrar la conveniència de millorar, tant pel que feia al seu cabal com a la seva qualitat, les aigües que consumien el ciutadans de Palma. Els arguments eren contundents. La mortalitat general de Mallorca era excessivament elevada o, si es vol, la mortalitat de Mallorca era més alta que la que corresponia a les nacions o ciutats mes avançades del continent europeu. Però si hom separava la mortalitat de Palma de la resta de l'Illa o de les Illes Balears hi havia una notable diferència. La de Palma s'atracava al 30% i la de la part rural gairebé no arribava al 20%. Tot i això, Palma augmentava de població. La raó d'aquest augment de la població no podia ser altra que la immigració interior, per la qual cosa es podia considerar que Palma i les seves deplorables condicions higièniques eren les que impedien un augment de la població mallorquina, augment que, a finals del segle XIX, semblava que era un dels signes més evidents del progrés. Ante los ataques de los piratas mallorquines, los mercaderes de Barcelona, Tarragona y Tortosa pidieron ayuda al monarca Jaime I para acabar con la amenaza. El 5 de septiembre de 1229, la escuadra catalana, compuesta por 155 naves, 1.500 caballeros y 15.000 soldados, zarpó de Tarragona, Salou y Cambrils, para conquistar Mallorca a Abú Yahya, el gobernador almohade semiindependiente de la isla. Las tropas aragonesas desembarcaron en Santa Ponsa y vencieron a los musulmanes en la batalla de Portopí (13 de septiembre de 1229). Los musulmanes se refugiaron tras las murallas de Palma (Madina Mayurqa) y crucificaron a varios soldados aragoneses a la vista de las tropas de Jaime. Éstas tropas poco después entraron por la puerta de Bab-al-kfol (que sería conocida luego como de la Conquista o de Santa Margarita) y tomaron y pasaron a cuchillo a la población de la ciudad (diciembre de 1229) y se apoderaron de la isla en pocos meses, salvo un pequeño núcleo de resistencia musulmana que logró mantenerse en la sierra de Tramontana hasta 1232. Los pobladores musulmanes huyeron a África o fueron esclavizados, mientras que la isla fue repoblada con catalanes. El libro está dividido en dos partes con la siguiente paginación: Una primera parte: XX+352 páginas. y una segunda parte que lleva por título DÚPLICA con 284 páginas +2 hojas,+1 lámina fotográfica a toda página +5 planos plegados. Encuadernado con sus cubiertas originales con fotografia de la puerta. Perfecto estado de conservación. Muy buen ejemplar. 19,512,5 cm.
