Die Übersetzung des Lobgesangs der Lobgesänge "Cantico dei Cantici" ist das berühmteste Werk von Leone (1765-1821) Karmeliter und Theologe aus Monferrato. Für die 10 Lobgesänge, die aus einem Lob-Dialog zwischen Baut und Bräutigam bestehen, befindet sich der lateinische Urtext jeweils auf der linken und die Übersetzung ins Italienische auf der rechten Seite. Leone hat fast auf jeder Seite zahlreiche und umfangreiche wissenschaftliche Kommentare über Textquellen und seine Editionsarbeit in den Fußnoten beigefügt. Als Mitglied der "Patria Società letteraria" hatte er Zugriff auf ein unveröffentlichstes Manusskript der Übersetzung des Abts T. Valperga di Caluso, das er als Basis nutzte. Die Übersetzung des Cantico ist das berühmteste Werk von Leone und wurde nach Erscheinen von diversen italienischen Zeitschriften, wie der "Novelle letterarie" aus Florenz hoch gelobt. Es war so erfolgreich, dass einige weitere Ausgaben in den nächsten Jahrzehnten erschienen. Legatura coeva in mezza pella chiara, con piatti marmorizzati, titolo "Poesie Sacre" impresso in oro al dorso, tassello applicato al dorso recante il numero 97, grechine in oro al dorso, tagli spruzzati in azzurro, il volume racchiude due testi rilegati insieme: Il Catico de' Cantici e il primo tomo dei Salmi. Tavola xilografica in antiporta del Cantico de' Cantici, firma di appartenenza all frontepizio dello stesso, testatina xilografica alla pagina VII del Cantico. Il Testo dei Salmi reca la data di stampa 1810. Taglio lungo tutta la cerniera del piatto anteriorie, difetti e abrasioni alla pelle delle cuffie, abrasioni agli angoli dei piatti, all'interno sporadiche fioriture, in generale il volume si presenta in ottimo stato di conservazione. in 8° 6; XLV; 183, 1+ 1 tavv.; (II), XX, 279 Edizione quarta dall'autore riveduta ed accresciuta di alcune considerazioni intorno al senso spirituale; (Seconda Edizione).

In-8° (cm. 19,5), graziosa brossura coeva spruzzata con titolo manoscritto su tassello al dorso (alcune tracce d'uso, minimo segno di tarlo al piatto posteriore); pp. [2] 163 [3] in ottimo stato; deliziosa vignetta xilografica al frontespizio, elegante testatina e capilettera sempre in xilografia; lievissime e sporadiche fioriture, antica firma di possesso al contropiatto. Prima edizione di questa parafrasi settecentesca in versi sciolti del Cantico dei Cantici, adattata al gusto arcadico della poesia e della musica italiana del tempo, ad opera di Evasio Leone, carmelitano e teologo del Monferrato.
