A dazzling private collection of Indian art was exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in three exhibitions--each devoted to a segment of this collection--beginning in 1982. This catalogue of this hitherto unpublished collection (only 39 of the 479 objects had been previously published) illustrates each object and provides for each object complete identification, collection information, and a citation of previously published objects that are similar. The collection was apparently acquired with great care, elaborate planning, and , one might assume, an almost unlimited budget. The quality of the material is superb and there are virtually no gaps in terms of types of material and tribal groups.
