Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Reprint of the 1925 first edition. A history of 34 battalions (15*frontline) of the Regiment during the First World War. The Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment), 1st Foot, is a Lowland regiment, the oldest regiment of the line in the British Army. In all some 100,000 passed through the Regiment. 583 officers and 10,579 men lost their lives and more than 40,000 were wounded. Seven VCs were won (one while serving in the MG Corps) and 71 battle honours awarded. Includes 59*b/w photographs and 45*maps. I-xxxi, 434pp, II-viii, 391pp. Slight rubbing to edges of wraps, spines lightly sunned. Small dark mark to lower pages edge of Vol.I. Crease to upper rear corner of Vol.I.

I-xxxii, II-xii, I7II-825pp. Boards have been heavily affected by damp in the past, this is now dry but has left staining to them. There are no signs of damp damage within the books. I-1.5cm closed tear to the foot of the lower DJ joint. A little sunned on the DJ spine. II-Several small closed tears to the upper DJ edges. Mark to rear DJ panel. Books weigh 2.2 kg, additional postage fees may be required.

Original publishers' blue cloth boards - gilt embossed to the spine and to the front board. 20 tissue-guarded colour plates including a frontispiece. 11 fold-out maps at the end of the book. Spotting to the cut edges of the book, none on the text pages. slight 'pushing in' to the head and tail of the spine with a crease across the top of the spine. Some small signs of bumpering to the covers. Over all, a very good copy of an important divisional history. All my books are scanned or photographed so you can see what you are buying.
