Gedruckt in der Presse von Albert Kundig, Genf. Vom Künstler im Impressum num. signiert. Ebensojede Orig.-Grafik vom Künstler rechts unten signiert. [12 Frauen beim sich an- und ausziehen.].- Charles-Felix Appenzeller wurde am 18. August 1892 in St. Gallen geboren. Früh schon fühlte sich der Sohn aus gutbürgerlicher Familie zur Malerei hingezogen: Ausbildung bei Wilhelm Hummel in Zürich, Kunstakademie in München, sowie bei Angelo Jank. Besonders fühlte er sich zur französischen Malerei hingezogen.Er war gut bekannt mit Ferdinand Hodler und Otto Vautier (Vater). 1911 arbeitete er in Genf, wo er zwischen 1912 und 1924 ein Atelier besass. In diesen Jahren malte er aber auch in der Ostschweiz: sein Bruder hatte ein Landhaus in Häggenschwil; hier entstanden viele Landschaftsbilder. 1918 gab er die Grafikmappe «Douze Estampes» heraus, 1923 das «Album de lithographies».1924 unternahm er mit Maurice Barraud eine Reise nach Spanien und noch im gleichen Jahr liess er sich in Paris nieder, wo er 1925 sein Atelier einrichtete. In Paris stellte er oft im Salon aus und lernte viele Malerkollegen kennen, unter ihnen auch den berühmten Claude Monet. 1927 kaufte er in Buchillon, bei Morges, ein Landhaus, das zum Treffpunkt seiner Genfer Freunde wurde. In dieser Zeit malte er zahlreiche Landschaftsbilder, mit dem Sujet des Eisenbahnviadukts. Zwischen 1912 und 1931 stellte Felix Appenzeller achtmal an der Nationalen Schweizerischen Kunstausstellung aus und zweimal im Kunsthaus Zürich.Auch während seiner Pariser Zeit zog es ihn immer wieder aufs Land hinaus. In Coutances, im Departement Manche in der Normandie, entstanden künstlerisch wertvolle Holzschnitte. In Neauphe-le-Vieux (Seine et Oise) kaufte er 1936 das Château de l'Abbaye, eine Villa, in der früher einmal Ingres gelebt hatte. Doch aus finanzielen Gründen musste Felix Appenzeller das Schlösschen wieder verkaufen. 1938 hatte er Marguerite Davesna-de Cussy geheiratet.Bis 1954 lebte er in Paris, dann zog er zurück in seine Vaterstadt, wo er 1964 starb.
