Highly decorated Pictorial Stiff Card Boards in Fair condition. No Dust Jacket. Pictorial Boards with cloth spine, bumped, rubbed along edges and soiled. Boards are very loose but still attached. Not Inscribed. 64 Pages. The book is profusely illustrated in colour throughout by M Ellen Edwards and John C Staples. There is the coloured Title Page together with some twenty eight (28) other full page coloured illustrations. All the other pages have been decorated with several vignettes, All pages have gold lined borders.

Octavo, 64 pages, original boards, front and rear hinge starting, loose spine, edgeworn, tail of spine frayed, name on flyleaf, a very good copy. First edition.

First Edition. no date stated, presumed 1st edition, children's pop-up book from 19th century, printed in Bavaria with number 633, measures 14" by 10 3/4", 3 dimensional full-page coloured illustrations pop up as pages are opened, cover is beautifully illustrated but scratched and soiled with age, back and corners are chipped, top front spine has 2" tear, repairs have been made to some pages and inside back hinge using archival tape, gift inscriptions inside cover, owner's name on ffep, pages foxed, a few child's pencil marks and colouring of some black and white illustrations, some losses to the pop-ups including the giant and a fairy, overall fair to good condition consdering this is a very old chilren's book. This book was featured on an episode of the British Antiques Roadshow.

At the beginning of each month there is a full page verse for the month and a full page illustration opposite. Colour chromolithograph frontis of 3 children playing in a cornfield. Ornate binding of cafe au lait cloth with very fine gilt stamped vignettes of flowers, children and toys on upper cover and spine. Bevelled edged boards, decorative green and white endpapers. Corners and spine ends rubbed, title page illustration coloured by (competent) childish hand, small number of pages have birthday names written in. Owners neat presentation inscription dated 1882. Overall a tight, delightful copy of a rather uncommon work. 24mo. (4 3/4" x 4") 288pp.
