Add to basketPaperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is an autobiography by Scottish missionary Frederick Stanley Arnot. The book details Arnot's 1881 journey to the Garenganze region of Africa. Along the way, he encountered many tribes and was hosted by King Liwanika of Barotseland. With compassion, Arnot describes the struggles he faced, including illness and hunger, and shares the ways in which his Christian faith sustained him. He also witnessed many Barotse customs and traditions, some of which were starkly at odds with his own moral sensibilities, such as trials by ordeal and executions for witchcraft. The book ends with Arnot's arrival at the capital of Barotseland, Lealui. Along with the many challenges he narrates, Arnot also tells of his gratificationsâ"the joy of sharing his faith, the comfort he received from the natural world, and the satisfaction of walking in the footsteps of explorer David Livingstone, who had passed through the same region decades before. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
