Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the rich artistic tradition of the Friuli region in Northern Italy from the 13th to the 19th century, focusing on the development of painting and the work of local artists. The author argues that contrary to popular belief, art in Friuli did not simply follow trends set by neighboring Venice but had an independent trajectory shaped by local patronage, geography, and social conditions. The book analyzes the work of key painters such as Pellegrino da San Daniele, Giovanni da Udine, and the Pordenone family, demonstrating their unique styles and contributions to the broader development of Italian Renaissance and Baroque art. Through meticulous research and analysis of primary sources, the author sheds new light on the artistic and cultural dynamics of this often-overlooked region, revealing the rich tapestry of artistic production that flourished in Friuli during this period. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book re-examines the evolution of the arts in Italy's Friuli region, charting the trajectory of art from its decline after the fall of the Roman Empire, through medieval times, and up to the High Renaissance. The author argues that contrary to accepted opinion, the relative isolation of Friuli did not prevent the survival of artistic expression. In fact, starting with an examination of supposed relics from the early Christian period, a whole new history of artistic endeavor is painstakingly reconstructed. Drawing extensively from sources such as parish records, the author identifies regional masters from the 14th and 15th centuries, and he examines in detail the work of Pellegrino da San Daniele, who emerged in the early 16th century as the most innovative and accomplished painter of his generation. The book concludes by considering the work of artists who followed in the footsteps of Pellegrino and their influence on the practice of painting in Friuli over subsequent centuries. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
