The volume published in conjunction with an exhibition at Stockholms Auktionsverk 6.6-9.8.1991. - - - "During the autumn of 1990, we were told that an exhibition of Livonian and Courlandian silver was taking place in Rundale (Ruhenthal) castle outside Bauska in southern Latvia. We went there and got to see a fantastic exhibition where many new research findings were also presented. The idea was born that this material should be made available to a wider circle. A collaborative project was started between the Art Industry Museum in Helsinki and AB Stockholms Auktionsverk - a collaboration that resulted in the exhibition Silver Treasures from Livland, Estonia and Courland". - - - "Under hösten 1990 fick vi på Auktionsverket höra att en utställning av livländskt och kurländskt silver pågick i slottet Rundale (Ruhenthal) utanför Bauska i södra Lettland. Vi åkte dit och fick se en fantastisk utställning där också många nya forskningsrön presenterades. Då föddes tanken att detta material borde göras tillgängligt för en vidare krets. Ett samarbetsprojekt startades mellan Konstindustrimuseet i Helsingfors och AB Stockholms Auktionsverk - ett samarbete som resulterat i utställningen Silverskatter från Livland, Estland och Kurland". - - - "Syksyllä 1990 saimme Auktionsverketissä tiedon liivinmaalaisen ja kuurinmaalaisen hopean näyttelystä Etelä-Latviassa Bauskan ulkopuolella olevassa Rundalen (Ruhenthal) linnassa. Näyttely osoittautui laajaksi ja mielenkiintoiseksi. Siinä esiteitiin myös monia uusia tutkimustuloksia. Syntyi ajatus, että tämä aineisto olisi saatava laajempaankin tietoisuuteen. Thyra (Tyra) Helena Borg (1872-1948) was the eldest of the seven children Antti and Eva Helena Ahlstrom had together. For the love of silver objects Tyra Borg wrote a book… called "Guld och silversmeder i Finland" ("Gold and silversmiths in Finland"). The book, published in 1935, is still a highly appreciated reference book among experts and amateurs. While writing the book Tyra Borg started collecting old Finnish silver. This publication presents the classy and rare pieces of Tyra Borg's collection. Besides introducing the most significant Finnish private collection of the field this book also gives the reader the keys to the the world of Finnish antique silver: all known city hallmarks and date letters used by the silversmiths in Finland.
