Se trata de un volumen de formato manejable, encuadernado en tapa dura,…publicado por Arnoldo Mondadori Editore en Milán en 1961, con un repertorio iconográfico de 141 ilustraciones en blanco y negro. Los registros bibliográficos consultados lo describen con 212 páginas y 19 cm de alto; en librerías de viejo aparece también consignado como 19 x 11,5 cm. El interés del libro está en su carácter de monografía sintética sobre Jan van Eyck, figura central de la pintura flamenca del siglo XV. La obra permite acercarse a un artista decisivo por su precisión óptica, su tratamiento minucioso de la luz y las superficies, y el uso refinado del óleo en veladuras, rasgos que la National Gallery destaca como fundamentales en su estilo. Esta edición tiene atractivo para lectores interesados en historia del arte, pintura flamenca, bibliografía italiana de arte y colecciones editoriales de mediados del siglo XX. No es una pieza rara de alto valor, pero sí un volumen cuidado, sobrio y con buena presencia material, especialmente interesante para completar series de arte de Mondadori o para quienes buscan estudios clásicos en formato compacto. Estado del ejemplar: según la imagen, ejemplar usado en buen estado general, con señales normales del paso del tiempo. La brujería pertenece a l…a historia de la humanidad con títulos no menos válidos que los del arte y de la religión, y pertenece a ella hasta tal punto que su desaparición ha sido considerada por ciertos historiadores como el comienzo de la era moderna. Si bien las raíces de la brujería se pierden en los tiempos más remotos, su época clásica se desarrolla en los siglos XVI y XVII, que empero dieron la obra de Leonardo, de Descartes, de Galileo. Hoy el fenómeno de la brujería, fuera de ciertas supervivencias que afloran aquí y allá, no nos perturba más. Pero su historia ?aparte de informarnos sobre un habí tus mentís que interesa al estudioso de psicología colectiva? nos advierte que debemos estar alertas frente a la amenaza que la irracionalidad ejercita perennemente contra el equilibrio y la salud del pensar y que el deseo de poder puede desencadenar ?ya no de buena fe? en el mundo de las relaciones humanas. Las seis historias han sido reconstruidas sobre fuentes contemporáneas y aspiran a transmitir en forma narrativa el clima de obsesión, cuyos fundamentos doctrinales se hallan ilustrados sintéticamente por los otros capítulos. Es éste, pues, un capítulo de historia humana, uno de los más aterradores, que nos permite advertir que la conciencia de nuestra condición humana en su claridad racional ha sido conquistada con fatiga en el curso de la historia y que con fatiga puede y debe ser mantenida y defendida ante tantas estulticias y locuras que surgen en nuestro camino.
