Self-wrappers. Condition: Good. [Pasadena: Pacific Coast Committee on American Principles and Fair Play, Pasadena Chapter, 1943]. 11 x 8 1/2". [4]pp. (single sheet, folded once). May have been published in response to remarks made by William H. Atherton, national commander of the American Legion, about deporting Japanese Americans as an "unassimilable group" after the war. With quotes from Franklin D. Roosevelt and Joseph C. Grew (last ambassador to Japan), praise for Japanese American soldiers, and a letter from Pfc. R. E. Borchers, USMCR, to the National Executive Committee of the American Legion expressing his shock at the treatment of Japanese Americans, "our American citizens, those of Japanese ancestry, are being persecuted, yes persecuted as though Adolph Hitler himself were in charge." Some browning at edges, otherwise a good copy.

Add to basketDisbound. Condition: Very Good. Not Stated (illustrator). The second edition of this anonymously published and very scarce political pamphlet, written to condemn Whig leaders. The second edition of this very scarce work, disbound but internally firmly bound and intact. After the end of the Napoleonic Wars, the Whigs strengthened their position in Parliament through the increased political participation of the middle classes. At this time, the Whigs rejected the Conservative Party's preference for governmental authority and social discipline, and instead supported reforms, which made them a popular choice for voters. This anonymously written political pamphlet, addressing the inhabitants of Edinburgh, criticises the Whig leaders and their tactical approach used to gain votes. Disbound but internally firmly bound and intact. Externally generally smart, with remnants of the backstrip to the spine and faint marks first page and last page. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good. book.

[4] pp. Printed on recto of first page only. Inner pages blank. Addressed in ink on last page to Honble. Samuel W. Parker of the House of Representatives. Roughness to blank inner margin, one short closed tear [expertly repaired]. Printed in two columns separated by a rule. Very Good. "Fair Play" is evidently a consortium of ocean mail steamers opposing efforts by competitors- - "sailing vessels, or other ships propelled by steam"- - who seek government support to diminish the market for ocean mail steamers. Congressman Parker, of Indiana, served as such from 1851-1855. We suggest that this item was printed during that period. Not located on OCLC as of July 2025.
