Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. An empty Fanfare binding attributed to the atelier of Nicolas & Clovis Eve circa 1580. with the original boards !___________ 4to, 23 x 16cm.Some wear and slight loss, old name written in ink in front central oval (Nicolas Eve). Housed in a felt lined, protective box ( see photos).__________ A beautiful, large example of a binding by one of the most celebrated binderies of the 16th century; acknowledged masters of the reliure a la fanfare. A nicely preserved example which, judging by the lack of wear to the hinges, has probably been separated from its original contents for a couple of centuries.___________________ Whilst this binding could be used for a remboitage, It also represents rare opportunity to study the structure of a 16th century fanfare binding in original, unsophisticated condition._________ For bindings using some of the same tools see : Hobson, Fanfare inventory binding number 103 ( for Marguerite de Valois ) and Sotheby's : Précieuses reliures du XVIe au XXe siècle de la collection d?un couple de bibliophiles 17 November 2022 Lot 17 : Le Pseaultier de David. Paris, 1586. Magnifique reliure à la fanfare, attribuable à l'atelier de Nicolas Éve.
