La geometria del giardino di Bernardo Buontalenti (1523-1608) nella transizione da Pratolino ad Artimino, il suo metodo di dim…ensionamento prospettico ora unicamente percepibile, scomparso Pratolino, nell'opera minore di Poggiofrancoli, sostanziano incidenze, sinora inavvertite se pure profonde, su André Le Nôtre (1613-1700) progettista del giardino di Versailles. E tali incidenze, destinate a emergere nella loro compiutezza geometrica a Louvois, permeano anche un'inedita carta 'di spionaggio' settecentesca relativa a Versailles. Esito delle torinesi Scuole teoriche d'artiglieria e fortificazione, tale carta, precisata nell'origine sardo-piemontese anche dall'analisi delle filigrane e contromarche, evoca il disegno di Versailles (perduto) mostrato da Le Nôtre a papa Innocenzo XI. Disegno, quest'ultimo, con ogni probabilità poi offerto in dono, a Torino, al termine del lungo viaggio italiano, alla duchessa Maria Giovanna Battista di Savoia-Nemours. Restituzioni grafiche essenziali quanto innovative del complesso di Poggiofrancoli integrano l'ampio apparato iconografico del volume arricchito in appendice dalle trascrizioni tratte dai testi di Francesco de' Vieri e Bernardo Sansone Sgrilli su Pratolino, dalle biografie di Buontalenti e Le Nôtre, la prima dovuta a Gherardo Silvani, la seconda non concordemente assegnata a Claude Desgots. Inedita, infine, l'analisi filigranologica di fogli buontalentiani degli Uffizi e di carte piemontesi settecentesche delle gualchiere Capucino.
