This book a combination scrapbook and memoir, has been assembled by David Farneth to celebrate Lenya's 100th birthday. It is lavishly illustrated with photographs from her shows, program and album covers, caricatures and publicity shots; the text has been culled from letters, journals, interviews and Lenya's unfinished autobiography. As she discusses her life and times, Lenya proves to be a canny and humorous observer. Following Weil's death in 1950, she declared that the 'task of my life' was to make his music better known in the United States, a task that she soon began to fulfil in a legendary long-running production of 'The Threepenny Opera.' As evidenced here, Lenya became a ferocious guardian of Weill's legacy until her own death in 1981. In her own words, Lenya comes across as an extremely shrewd if loving person.
