Advertising Agreement. Thin light blue bi-fold advertising contract from H. G. Farrell, Peoria, IL. Some browning, light edge wear and minor chipping. Paper has blind embossed stamp "Superfine London" over embossed crown in one corner. Contract is blank. Sheet measures 16 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches with two contracts per sheet and was intended to be cut into two. Printed on verso only. Contract is from the H. G. Ferrell Company intended for regional newspapers with very strict instructions as to ad placement, terms and the requirement that a copy of said paper be mailed each week to H. G. Ferrell, Peoria, Ills. The story of Farrell Arabian Liniment is well documented; two brothers forming a company in Peoria in the 1840's, falling out by 1849 with the estranged brother setting up shop in Chicago, selling, you got it, Farrell's Arabian Liniment. W. B. Farrell ended up in Chicago while H. G. Continued in Peoria. Soon ads referring to imposters and fakes began to appear as the brotherly feud deepened. These sheets are not dated other than 185__. A nice item of advertising and druggist ephemera. This item not in Byrd, although there is one H. G. Farrell item listed in Byrd.

LEGATURA EDITORIALE. Condition: NUOVO. Pagg. 224, rilegato.

Broadside, 6-5/8" x 5", illustrated in the center with a sketch of an Arabian oasis, with trees, angels, a horse, and a loving couple. Light edge wear and toning. Very Good. Signed at the end in typescript by Farrell. A rare Peoria item. We have recited its contents in full. [offered with] H.G. FARRELL'S CELEBRATED ARABIAN LINIMENT. MANUFACTURED ONLY BY H.G. FARRELL, SOLE INVENTOR AND PROPRIETOR, AND WHOLESALE DRUGGIST, NO. 17, MAIN STREET, PEORIA, ILL. Broadside accounting sheet for Farrell's distributors. 7-3/4" x 9-3/4", with the usual illustration. Light wear, printed on pale blue paper. Very Good. The second item warns of spurious imitations: "Do not touch any other, or you will get a spurious article! Look WELL, OR YOU WILL BE DECEIVED! BEWARE PARTICULARLY OF A NEW COUNTERFEIT which has just made its appearance, called W.B. FARRELL'S Arabian Liniment, and is called by this impostor the 'Original.' Remember that the ONLY GENUINE always has the letters H.G. before Farrell's." Hiram G. Farrell began his career in 1836 as a clerk in his brother's Peoria drugstore; he was fourteen years old. The two would have a falling-out, as is evident here. Each advertised the Arabian Liniment, and claimed the other's was inferior. H.G. retired in 1903 at the age of 80, "a shrewd and industrious druggist" who "made a fortune from Farrell's Arabian Liniment" [Bogard, 'Peoria's Pioneer Druggists, the Farrells, and Farrell's Arabian Liniment', in 24 Pharmacy in History 99-105 (1982)]. OCLC 191287438 [2- AAS, U Rochester] as of February 2025.

Signed at the end in typescript by Farrell. A rare Peoria broadside. It describes the curative powers of the Arabian Liniment for soreness and swelling of the breast, pain and weakness in the back and joints, sprains, paralysis or loss of power in the limbs, etc. "It penetrates the flesh to the bone." Moreover, it "effectually and speedily cures most of the diseases of horses." Hiram G. Farrell began his career in 1836 as a clerk in his brother's Peoria drugstore; he was fourteen years old.
