Raro saggio (1 sola copia in Italia a Torino presso l' Accademia delle Scienze) dell' illustre geologo svizzero A. Favre. Pioniere degli studi di geologia alpina, concentrò poi le sue ricerche sulla Savoia e sul Monte Bianco. Dedica dell'autore.

Rare and well illustrated. Alphonse Favre was a Swiss geologist. He was a pioneer of alpine geography and became director of the Swiss Geological Commission. He studied natural sciences at the Academy of Geneva, then chemistry and mineralogy in Paris. From 1844 to 1854 he taught classes in geology and paleontology at the Academy of Geneva. He specialized in geological research of the Savoy and Mont Blanc, that included studies of ancient glaciers associated with those regions. His explanation of the geological structure showed that certain anomalous incidents of fossils were due to recurring inter folding of the strata and to complex overthrust faults. Molte delle tavole riproducono piccole vedute di vette valdostane e piemontesi. ĞFavre (1815-1890), celebre geologo ginevrino, visitò per molti anni le regioni alpine, studiandone la struttura ed illustrandole con grande precisione. Nel suo atlante non ci sono solo tavole di prevalente carattere geologico, ma anche vedute di montagne e scorci panoramici fino ad allora trascuratiğ (Réan, p. 156).
