The expedition included a 165 strong Commission of Arts and Science, which was to examine all aspects of Egypt, contemporary and ancient. The results of the findings, observations, collections and artistic impression were published in the "Description de l'Egypte", but this task took many years, employed 400 engravers and up to 2000 others each year. The outcome was described as "without parallel in the annals of historical research." However, the first edition was circulated in only small numbers, particularly in France itself. In 1820 the decision was made to produce a second revised edition, by which time 900 engraved plates had been completed. It is in these that the real fruits of Napoleon's expedition to Egypt are found today. These properties can be further enhanced by controlling the added alloying elements as well as the heat treatment parameters. The objective of the present work was to determine the effect of the interactions between element additions and heat treatment on the alloy microstructure and mechanical properties. The present study was carried out to investigate both the formability and mechanical properties of 6xxx alloy series. The slabs (7 x 11 x 1.5 cm each) were machined and homogenized for 10 h at 520 °C, followed by air cooling. The results show that a _-iron phase displays low formability and hinders deformation of the grains during cold rolling and leads to premature cracking. The cold rolled structure contains elongated grains with broken _-Al5FeSi platelet fragments. In the Mn-containing alloy, the _-iron phase is more easily deformable while addition of Sr does not improve the alloy behavior. With beryllium additions, the iron intermetallics precipitate in the form of small, globular _-Al8Fe2SiBe script particles, in the interdendritic regions. 120 pp. Englisch.…

Ceci est la raison qui nous a menées à étudier le sujet concernant les effets du magnésium et des conditions de vieillissement sur la résilience des alliages Al-Si-Cu-Mg de type 319. Afin de confirmer les résultats obtenus, nous avons étudié la dureté et les différentes surfaces de rupture de plusieurs échantillons car il est connu que la dureté est le contraire de la résilience. Les résultats finaux sont avérées très convaincants. La plus grande partie de l énergie absorbée est utilisée pour initier les fissures, i.e. que l énergie d initiation des fissures et supérieures à leur énergie de propagation. Cette observation reflète bien la grande ductilité des alliages 319 étudiés. Cette ductilité peut être améliorée par l homogénéisation des alliages et par l accroissement de la résistance des phases intermétalliques.
