Originally written in Urdu, this novel by Karim Fazli describes a Jamadar's experiences in Pakistan during the Second World War. An uncommon translation of Karim Fazli's novel. Found in the price clipped dust wrapper. First published in Pakistan, the novel follows a naive but lovable Jamadar. When the Second World War is declared, his efforts to help his village are overshadowed by the great Bengal famine of 1943. Out of depth in the bitter hatreds between his people and the Hindus, the Jamadar turns to a communist way of life. Fazli was a government official and native of Pakistan with first hand experience of the events he describes in the novel. In the publisher's original blue cloth binding, found in the price clipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart. Lightly bumped to the head and tail of the spine, with a little discolouration to the top edge of the boards. The wrap has some handling marks to the rear board, and is a little foxed to the reverse. Internally, firmly bound. Aside from some light scattered foxing to the front and rear of the volume and the fore edge of the text block, pages are generally bright and clean. Very Good. book.
