First Edition
Hardcover. 1st editions. GOOD-VG books. Vol 1 with Cologne to Meyence map, vol 2 of Upper Rhine. Engraved title pages. Each with about 60 plates. Both bound in half green morroco with marbled boards & pastedowns. Tight. Sounds hinges. No loose pages or sprung signatures. 5 raised ribs with gilt lettered & decorated panels. Each vol 2nd panel with: "TOMBLESONs VIEWS OF THE RHINE". 4th panels with: "FIRST SERIES" or "SECOND SERIES". Neither with a half tp and a single engraved tp. Series 1 tp lists Fearnside as editor, series 2 with no mention of his name. Vol 1 map an unusual format in that it unfolds vertically. Edges & extrems lightly worn. No aging or marginalia. Plate margins of first & last dozen or so of each vol moderately foxed. Interior plates mostly uneffected. All text foxing free. Vol 1 map with one incorrect fold line. Vol 2 with a short fold lne tear. Otherwise both maps FINE. GOOD-Very Good books. 1st editions. 9.5"x6". 190,180pp.
