For that he was executed and, thus, became the first person on the island to die for his Christian faith - that resulting from edicts decreed by the Emperor Diocletian. The cathedral was originally an abbey (approx. 793 - 1539) said to have been founded by King Offa of Mercia. St. Alban's Cathedral is a magnificent structure, containing significant architecture, and numerous historic artistic vestiges from medieval times. This lovely book is graced with color and black-and-white photographs, as well as a ground plan of it architecture )to be seen on the verso of the front cover. The book, written by Rev. D. R.
