The author, Dov Silverman, is a winner of Japan's prestigious 6th Annual Suntory Merit Award for Mystery Fiction for "The Good Sheperds." He was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1933. After three years as a U.S. marine in the Korean War, he worked as a railroad conductor, and as an auctioneer. He graduated from Stonybrook University, cum laude, at the age of 39. Dov credits a chance meeting with a TZADDIK (righteous man), Jules Rubinstein, in Brentwood, New York, with setting him on a the path of study and religious involvement. The family moved to Safed (Tzfat) in 1972. His books are published in English, German and Japanese.

First US edition, hardcover, has a slight lean to the binding, which is beginning to crack in a few places but remains solid. The book also has mild bumps to the spine ends, light rubbing to the cloth, and a touch of sunning to the head. Overall, an unmarked, Near Very Good copy in a Very Good, unclipped dust jacket, which has light bumps to the spine ends and cover corners, and mild rubbing to the covers with a tiny ding to the spine.
