In very good condition; original cloth boards with blind stamped decoration; spines have been professionally replaced with leather, with gilt title on labels. Covers have mild signs of shelf-wear such as bumping on the corners and some browning along the edges. Other light scuffs and marks as expected with age and handling. Ex-library copy, with library stamp on title page of both volumes, and stamped on a handful of pages throughout. Otherwise pages are clean and unmarked with light foxing and some ghosting. Vol 2 has a small ink stain on page 81. Edited by Lach Szyrma. Ewa Feliska was a Polish author and prosaist. Following her husband's death in 1833, Feliska moved her family to Kremenets. Feliska became involved in a growing pro-independence faction in the city, which wanted to gain Polish independence from the Russian Empire. Using her writing talent, she gained a position of importance in the organization, eventually being appointed as the secretary for the independence group. However, in 1839 the group was broken up by the Russian authorities, resulting in Feliska's arrest, sentencing, and exile to Siberia. Hence she is credited as 'A Banished Lady' on the title page.
