Some rub-marking and tanning to pastedowns and endpapers. Boards have moderate shelf wear, with rubbing and marking. Light bumping to corners and moderate crushing to spine ends. Binding remains firm with tanning and sunning spots overall. Clipped jacket is split in two pieces with heavy edge wear, large tears and chipping, causing loss around edges and spine. Moderate tanning and creasing, with rubbing and marking.

A story for children aged 10-14, and based on the author's own experiences when he was sent alone from England to stay with strangers in the Australian bush. Interior very clean with no writing, marks or tears. Front cover and first couple of pages are lightly creased. Covers otherwise very clean. This copy has some light pagedge soil, some light board edge wear. The 15.95 jacket has rubbing wear, edge wear, small chip in the bottom edge of the front panel, some chipping at the top and heel of the spine. Basis for the movie. Nice over-all copy of a very scary book. Earlier printing of the Doubleday edition before they starting using number line. Full size hard cover not the small book club size. Original Cloth. Condition: Good. Hawkins, Sheila (illustrator). First Edition. The boards have some light surface discolouration, a little edge rubbing and slight corner bumping. The page edges are browned with some light spotting. The pages are otherwise clean and unmarked. A small label has been fixed to the bottom corner of the rear pastedown but there are no other markings to indicate that this might have been in a lending library. Light spotting to the endpapers and some surface creasing to the final page of the text but the pages are otherwise unmarked. No jacket. Illustrated by Sheila Hawkins. First printing.

Hardback small octavo, dustjacket, good condition (in fair dustjacket), black & white drawings, illustrated endpapers, pages lightly toned, edges uncut, large piece missing top spine jacket (slight loss top & bottom edges, missing corners replaced by tape & white paper backing reverse side, cover illustration complete), cover corners little bumped, some edgewear, autograph (written & dated dedication from illustrator front flyleaf), protected by removable semiarchival plastic sleeve. 241 pp. An Australian story for young adults by Stephen Fennimore about a boy from the United States named Martin Haddon who stays in Australia with people he does not know. Life at Tangari was full of adventures with daily expeditions into the bush, a beetle hunt, a 20-mile trek by horseback through blazed trails, and Penny's hidey-hole (the charming drawings on the endpapers were found on the walls of her cave). But until Martin set out alone to spend a day in the bush did he show the makings of a real bushman and at the same time save his own life, and later help save Tangari. The author has relived many scenes from his own boyhood, which was spent in Australia. The Australian-born artist Ninon McKnight has captured the characters and the background in her fine pen-and-ink drawings. This book was chosen by The Junior Literary Guild as an outstanding adventure book for boys and girls. Second copyright edition. (Not listed in Muir.).

A childrens story dealing with an English boy travelling in the Bush country of the Great Dividing Range. A sequel "Bush Voyage" appeared the next year. The author's real name was Dale Collins, but he wrote several under the name of Stephen Fennimore. 180pp, 6 full-page b&w drawings. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
