Hardcover. Condition: Very Good+. Dust Jacket Condition: VG-. First Thus. A "Southwestern classic" that explores centuries of traditional dances & ceremonies of various Native American peoples, with emphasis on the Navajo & Apache. Drawn from personal observations & research across New Mexico & Arizona by the author, who earned herself a reputation as the "first woman dude wrangler" as she led tours to Native American sites & ceremonies. First published in 1931, this is the First Edition, First Printing, from the University of New Mexico Press, 1957 (First, thus), enhanced with 16 halftone illustrations reproduced from original paintings by a variety of artists, all of whom recognize "that the Indian is essentially an artist." In 276 pages + x-page Index in rear, this 8vo (6.25" x 9.25") has tan cloth-covered boards lettered in bright red to spine.
