Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Text in English. 272 pp. Few underlines/markings on the pages. Edge wear. The fundamental questions regarding the nature of the 'self and 'identity' are receiving renewed attention in the social and affective neurosciences. Imaging techniques are allowing neurological models of functions…contributing to what we experience as 'sense of self to be explored more rigorously. In clinical practice, the influence of the holistic approach (and its emphasis on identity and emotional adjustment) is extending to a range of clinical rehabilitation settings, bringing with it the need for new methods and interventions. Individuals coming to rehabilitation following brain injury may explain how they want to "get back to my old self" , yet others may deny changes and see rehabilitation itself as a threat to their identity. Families may also have questions about so-called personality changes. There are different challenges for those with degenerative neurological conditions and their families, experiencing or witnessing the erosion of sense of self and identity over time. The coming together of neurological and psychological research into the self, along with a clinical imperative to address changes in self and identity, represents a new frontier in neuropsychological rehabilitation. This special issue presents the work of contributors from a range of backgrounds covering new theoretical perspectives on the self, quantitative and qualitative research studies, and clinical and service issues. It is intended to be a key resource for clinicians working in neuropsychological rehabilitation, as well as researchers interested in the self and identity in clinical populations. Neuropsychological Rehabilitation provides an international forum for the publication of well-designed and properly evaluated intervention strategies, surveys, and observational procedures which are clinically relevant and may also back up theoretical arguments or models. The Research Digest is a regular feature in Neuropsychological Rehabilitation. The Digest Editors regularly scan a wide range of journals and other publications for material of particular interest to those working in rehabilitation. This section is an invaluable resource providing both bibliographic references and informal comment and discussion.

Hardback. Condition: New. The aim of neuropsychological rehabilitation is to enable people with cognitive, emotional, or behavioural deficits to achieve their maximum potential in the domains of psychological, social, leisure, vocational or everyday functioning. Describing the holistic programme devised and adopted at the world…famous Oliver Zangwill Centre and embracing a broad theoretical base, incorporating a variety of frameworks, theories and models, this book proposes an integrated approach to brain injury rehabilitation by an interdisciplinary team. The coverage explains the underlying principles involved, describes the group therapies employed, highlights a selection of real case examples and reviews the outcomes measured and achieved. This book is essential reading for clinical neuropsychologists, clinical psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, psychiatrists, neurologists, physiotherapists, social workers and nurses.
