Em 1526 foi descoberto um manuscrito da obra, na Biblioteca de Buda e foi editada pela primeira vez em 1534 na cidade de Basel. Seguiram-se logo traduções para francês, 1547, latim, 1551, italiano, 1556 e inglês, 1569. Romance bizantino que narra as provações de Teágenes e Caricleia, um casal que enfrenta naufrágios, raptos e perigos no Mediterrâneo para preservar seu amor. Após serem capturados e levados à Etiópia, a verdadeira identidade de Caricleia é revelada, impedindo o sacrifício e resultando em um final feliz. A obra, que começa in medias res com um cenário de naufrágio, utiliza narrativas retrospectivas para desenvolver a trama de suspense. The work Teagnes and Claricleia, or The Ethiopian Story as it is also known, is a novel written by Heliodorus of Hemessa, a Greek writer of the Hellenistic period. In 1526, a manuscript of the work was discovered in the Library of Buda, and it was first published in 1534 in the city of Basel. This was soon followed by translations into French (1547), Latin (1551), Italian (1556) and English (1569).
