In the course of the surveys the author undertook in Yemen, since 1973, a constant source of company was that of children who wanted to be photographed and followed him or stood in front of the lens, insistently chanting Sadiq, sura! ( Friend, take my picture! ). Focused as he was on architectural and environmental aspects, most of the photos of these children were merely to placate them and let him work in peace. They knew that they were never going to see them and therefore what he often did was to turn around and shoot a quick photo of those who followed him, with no concern with the result the hearing of the click was enough to satisfy them. Yet, later on, in these haphazard photographs, the merit was found of recording a way of being a child that radically changed in less than two generations. After all these years, the charm remained of the children that these images evoked. For this reason this small collection is now presented.

Condition: Very Good. 4to., pp.292, beige cloth lettered in brown, colour frontispiece, b/w illustrations and plans, pictorial endpapers; a very good, clean copy, in price-clipped dust jacket, whoch has two large closed tears (5.5 and 8.5 cms) to front upper margin, with creasing between and scotch-tape repair to reverse, small closed tears to head of spine, else very good.
