This 6.25 x 9.5, 368 page book is the first edition of this title as verified by the publication date on the title page in agreement with the information on the copyright page. The book itself is in very good condition but lacks the dust jacket as issued. The green cloth covering shows some dust-dulled coloring around the edges and on the spine but overall the covers are unmarred and the binding is tight and firm. There is a curious brown spot that is shown on the front end papers and permeates through to the title page and dedication page but does not show further into the text body. Beyond that the text is in near fine or better condition with virtually no wear or defects to mention. The book is highlighted by 40 striking black-and-white photos and the large folding map is still attached to the rear of the text. This is a very interesting portrait of the authors travels from today's Turkey overland to coastal China. 368 pages.
