Le représentant des FFI est alors Alfred Malleret, et le représentant du CFLN, Jacques Chaban-Delmas, délégué militaire national.

Pour son baptême, il adresse ainsi à tous les FFI cette déclaration flamboyante à lire devant chaque formation militaire.
