In diesem Buch wird von der Analyse der sozialen Verhältnisse in Mekka vor dem Auftreten des Islam und der Veränderungen durch den Propheten Muhammad ausgegangen. Dabei wird deutlich, dass im Islam bereits zu den Zeiten des Propheten Muhammad zwei unterschiedliche Linien existierten. Der Koran hat sowohl eine individuelle als auch eine kollektive Komponente. Er wendet sich an alle Menschen - gang gleich welche Hautfarbe, ob Arm oder Reich (individuelle Komponente). Er erteilt den Menschen aber auch den Auftrag, sich für Gerechtigkeit auf der Welt einzusetzen (kollektive Komponente). In diesem Buch wird diese Sichtweise, nach der der Islam im Sinne von Muhammad und Ali ursprünglich auch eine revolutionäre Bewegung war, die dann aber durch opportunistische Elemente, die sich durch Macht und Reichtum verführen ließen, korrumpiert wurde, verdeutlicht. Es soll aufgezeigt werden, wie Imam Ali dagegen - in Anlehnung an den Staat des Propheten - während seines Kalifats die soziale Gerechtigkeit gegen manchen Widerstand wiederherzustellen versuchte. Dies tangierte jedoch die Interessen der Profiteure der sozialen Ungerechtigkeit, was letztlich zu Aufständen und zu seinem Sturz führte. Es folgten die Dynastien der Ummayyaden und Abbasiden, und bis zum heutigen Tage wurde der Islam in der Folge zu einer Religion der Reichen und Mächtigen verfälscht und von falschen Traditionen überlagert.
