Issued by Lakeside Press in 500 copies on Japanese vellum, with a preface by his brother Roswell, facsimile signatures, and in-text portraits. This copy bears a full family presentation inscription signed by Julia Sutherland Field and the five children, Mary F. F. Englar, Eugene Field II, Frederick S. Field, Roswell F. Field, and Ruth Field Foster. Binding shows the Sickles bindery stamp; Eugene Field II's association with Harry Dayton Sickles and notorious forged signatures is well documented, yet this copy is authentic. Design draws on a Lorenz Schwartz model. Provenance: family inscription reading, "We, the wife and children of Eugene Field, are proud of inscribe this, his most intimate work," dated Christmas Day, 1918, with gilt supralibros "GEB" monogram. Octavo, single volume. Near Fine, decorative maroon morocco with satin endpapers, slight corner rubbing, mild sunning to rear board, clean interior. Collation: unpaginated. The poem is hand set in Lectura type, with the title page in Trump Mediaval. The urner Grey text paper was hand made by Barcham Green and lightly dampened before printing. Full leather binding with gilt borders to both covers, gilt lettering to the front cover, and blind stamped decoration to the leather fold-in, bottle green endpapers. 11¾" x 8", pp. [18] illustrated with six drawings. Within a cloth covered board slipcase with a printed and decorated label to the front panel (a spare label is tipped in at the rear of the book). A book in Fine condition in a Good but spotted slipcase with worn extremities.
