Dieses monumentale Handels- und Adressverzeichnis bietet ein Panorama der französischen Industrie-, Handels- und Gesellschaftsstruktur der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts (u.a. "Liste Particulières des Professions de Paris", z.B. "Daguerréotypes et Artistes Photographes", "Emaux et Èmailleuers", "Theatres, etc.). Das vorliegende Exemplar ist die letzte Ausgabe, die noch zu Lebzeiten des Mitgründers Sébastien Bottin (1764-1853) erschien, bevor das Verzeichnis von den Brüdern Firmin-Didot übernommen wurde. Mit originalen, gewerblichen Anzeigen, die einen Einblick in die Werbekultur der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts bieten, sowie die berühmte verlegerische Vorrede ("avis préliminaire"), die den historischen Plagiats- und Konkurrenzkampf mit dem rivalisierenden Annuaire général du Commerce detailliert dokumentiert. -- Besitzvermerk von alter Hand a. Titelblatt, Seiten teils gebräunt oder stellenweise leicht braun- oder stockfleckig, nur die letzen Seiten, am unteren Rand, ein wenig wasserfleckig. -- Selten, vor allem in diesem Erhaltungszustand. // Approx. 2000-2500 pages (pagination is misnumbered in places, due to 19th-century printing errors (texts are continuous, without any loss of content), with original commerical advertisement section. -- Bound in a period full leather binding, with outer hinges firm and tight. Spine and boards show age-appropriate wear (faded and scuffed, some cracking to spine, top a bit snagged). Text block is tight and sound. Interior pages are clean (only light foxing), with the exception of slight, historic water staining at the lower bottom corner of the final index leaves (staining does not affect main text or readability). -- Complete copy of the 1853 edition of this famous directory, providing an unparalleled snapshot of mid-19th-century French industrial history, trade networks, and professional infrastructure. This is also the final edition published during the lifetime of Sébastien Bottin (1764-1853), before the directory was absorbed by the Firmin-Didot family. Includes the famous historical "avis préliminaire" documenting the trade war and indexing disparities against its primary competitor, the Annuaire général du Commerce. The wonderful historical advertising section features period-typical typography, trade logos, and patent listings, offering a window into mid-19th-century marketing culture.
