The equality of reason and fantasy, resp. rationality and creativity, as established in the early work, corresponds to the relationship of concept and image as forms of communicative representation in Schleiermacher s later work.In the first part, Firchow reconstructs the justification of fantasy as ğindividual reasonĞ within the contemporary context of German Idealism. The second part contains a systematic statement of the basic functions of figurative representation in the context of a Platonic ğimage-anthropologyĞ, which can be connected to fundamental aspects of the recent ğiconic turnĞ.
