Traduction automatique : Thomas Chubb (29 septembre 1679 - 8 février 1747) était un écrivain Deist laïc anglais, né près de Salisbury. Il voyait le Christ comme un enseignant divin, mais tenait pour souveraineté sur la religion. Il a mis en doute la moralité des religions, tout en défendant le christianisme sur des bases rationnelles. En dépit de peu de scolarité, Chubb était bien sur les controverses religieuses de la journée. [1] Son Vrai Evangile de Jésus-Christ, affirme, plaide pour une distinction entre l'enseignement de Jésus et celui des évangélistes. [2] Les vues de Chubb sur le libre arbitre et le déterminisme, exprimées dans Un recueil de tracts sur divers sujets (1730), ont été largement critiquées par Jonathan Edwards dans Freedom of the Will (1754). Comporte 44 pages de descriptifs de planches également. Exemplaire en reliure moderne, demi-chagrin vert bien réalisé, exemplaire lavé, l'intérieur comporte de fortes mouillures, heureusement pour la plupart marginales et n'affectant qu'assez peu les planches en elle-mêmes. Certaines planches sont tout de même affectées, et le papier est un peu gondolé par endroits. L'ouvrage d'une grande rareté reste tout à fait attractif pour la superbe qualité des lithographies. The first tract (68 pages) uniformly browned, the rest of the tracts free of browning or toning.
