Browne, has written an article on his life and work which will appear shortly in the Century Magazine, and will be copiously illustrated from original drawings by " Phiz."'.

Begins: 'Sir, | I have the honour to inform you that the Committee of the Fine Arts Club have, on the nomination of His Excellency The Marquis d'Azeglio, elected you a member of their Society.' (The reference is to the Italian diplomat and art collector Vittorio Emanuele Taparelli d'Azeglio (1816-1890), who was for a time President of the Burlington Fine Arts Club.) Robinson is enclosing a copy of the rules and list of members (not present), and Beck's 'subscription of One Guinea, due on election, may be paid according to the slip sent herewith'. He requests an acknowledgement of 'this communication' at Beck's 'earliest convenience'.

Agreeing to the Society's request for 'an authoritative paper on the subject of trade with the Netherlands East Indies', and asking for the proposed date ('approximately'), as he will be 'in Holland in the latter part of October, when I shall be in a position to get all the latest and most reliable information obtainable upon this interesting and very important subject'. TWO: TLS. 30 September 1921. 1p., 4to. Putting forward four 'gentlemen' as possible chairmen of the meeting: Lord Emmott; F. Leverton Harris; R. de marees van Sinderen ('Netherlands Minister'); J. Crommelin ('Liberian Minister'). THREE: AN in the third person. Undated (stamp dated 1 March 1920). 1p., 12mo. He 'much regrets that owing to a previous business engagement he will not be able to avail himself of the kind invitation of the Council to attend the Lecture to be given by Mr. William James Garnett on Wednesday afternoon'. FOUR and FIVE are typed communications by Towley's private secretary , the first an ANS (28 November 1921), the second a TLS (3 December 1921), asking for an advance copy of Townley's lecture to be sent to the editor of 'Lloyd's List', W. A. Godfrey.

Scarce: An attractive production, tastefully printed on pink paper. A narrow 12mo bifolium (9.5 x 20.5 cm), with 'London 1968' printed at the foot of the recto of the first leaf, and White's poem printed in italic on the recto of the second, with the printer's slug ('Designed and printed by Poet & Painter') at the foot of the page, with author named 'E. W. W.' at the end. Begins: 'Tonight / Residual snowflakes keep falling from the flies, / Drifting through the sylphs' moonlit glade, / [.]'. Manuscript inscription on reverse of second leaf, by either White or his wife Dodo: 'with best wishes from / Dodo & Eric White / & pleasantest memories / of our meeting in / St. Peter Paul last April'.

The first English-language treatise on occupational medicine. (illustrator). First American Edition. Twelvemo, 202pp. Full sheep, title stamped in gilt on the spine, over black morocco label. Light foxing to endpapers, scattered toning throughout. Small chip at head of the spine, solid text block. The work is divided into four sections: on workmen, shopkeepers, merchants and master-manufacturers, and professional men. "It attracted attention from both medical men and laymen at the time it appeared, and played an important part in stimulating the factory and health legislation which mitigated some of the worst features of the industrial revolution. The book also includes important information on the harmful effects of child labor." (Garrison-Morton 2123) (Shaw-Shomaker 9393). Published the same year as the first English edition, this first American edition included explanations of the scientific terminology and the French and Latin phrases used in the text. (Norman 2064).

She has 'just received the ticket for the lecture at the Associated Arts Institute' which he sent, and is afraid she will not be able to use it herself: 'as we are going to the Opera'. She wonders whether she 'may be allowed' to 'give it to some friends who I think would like to come very much'.
