With such a wonderful subject you would think that Simon & Schuster would have printed this on a decent paper! Like all copies this has a tanned text block. Despite this it is a wonderful account of a profoundly important subject.

Jean Hartley evokes the 50s and the 60s brilliantly, and the small press became an important chapter in the literary history of the time. Obviously of interest to the Larkin collectors but it really is more than that. This is a tight clean first edition hardback, in a brilliant protected jacket that has been price clipped.

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. Superb first printing, looks unread. This fine writer is well worth reading as well as collecting. The only flaw comes direct from the publisher; why use cheap paper for such a superb writer? Apart from that, this is a great copy in a protected jacket, ideal for the collector.

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Near Fine. PRIMO LEVI SAID: I hope the reader will be indulgent toward the extreme dispersion of themes, tones, and angles of approach that he will find in this collection. My justification is: the 'pieces' are situated in an arc of time that is close to a quarter of a century, the time of my almost total fidelity to LA STAMPA: and in twenty-five years many things change, inside us and around us. Furthermore, they are conditioned by my intrinsic libertinage, in part willed, in part due to the itinerary fate has reserved for me; I've drunk at various founts and breathed different airs, some salutary, others quite polluted. . . I'm a normal man with a good memory who fell into a maelstrom and got out of it more by luck than by virtue, and who from that time on has preserved a certain curiosity about maelstroms large and small, metaphorical and actual. This from Primo Levi's introduction to THE MIRROR MAKER, his collection of short stories and essays. CLEAN AND TIGHT TEXTBLOCK, and the protected jacket is only lightly worn. Not price clipped.

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. A biography of Dwight Eisenhower in a complete but worn jacket. This jacket is rather splendid, with a superb colour portrait on the front, and with the famous speech printed on the back when Eisenhower was in London. There is a neat inscription dated 1948 on the half title, but this adds period charm rather than amounting to a fault. Doubleday issued this first edition with an untrimmed leading edge to the text block. The binding is firm but the green cloth binding corners are 'soft'. Not a perfect First Edition but still collectable. The endpaper maps are of interest. The contents reveal the character of this fine example of democracy in action.

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. This is the largest book I have come across; it measures 2 feet high by 1 foot wide. I have never sent a book like this in the post so if you are interested I'm sure we can work something out. It is a FIRST EDITION HARDBACK, and it weighs a fair bit. It is an astonishing publication. For the aviation fan it is very simply STUNNING. Whether you are ten years old or a hundred; if you enjoy looking at wonderful photographs of exciting aircraft this is ESSENTIAL. The pleasure is further enhanced by the expert text. The jacket is complete and undamaged but it betrays a few signs of having been opened, hence my jacket rating of Near Fine. There are some people who will look at this and frame the pages, others will simply drool. It is special, it really is. Needless to say there will be extra postage depending on destination.
