Custom made slipcase. Pages and plates are lightly tanned and thumbed at the edges, with light foxing. Binding has remained firm. Minor brown marks and occasional thumb-marking throughout. Folded plates to rear have noticeable edge wear with small tears and creases. Boards are a little rub worn with slight shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are a little bumped. Spine ends are a mildly crushed. Gilt lettering is darkened. Scuffing with small area of loss to edges. Slipcase has moderate edge wear with visible bumping to corners. Black marks with water stains overall.

These 2 books are totally in French, and deal totally with the diseases of women and infants. They contain no copyright date, but look to date from about 1900. Replete with 445 very detailed steel engravings, as well as 40 full page color plates on thicker paper stock of anatomical drawings and extraordinary actual photographs. Most of Volume 2 is about infants and children. There is a booklet in the back of each that additionally came with them. The vol. 1 booklet is particularly fascinating, being about botannical medicines and poisons. It is page after page of color renderings of numerous plants. Both books show miniscule corner wear, but otherwise are in just remarkable condition for their age -- each having an intact color paste-on, on their respective front boards. This offering is a golden opportunity for a medical collector to obtain some very scarce volumes. Photos upon request.

Tight and nice later printing of this hefty set -- a massive compilation of home medical knowledge, entirely in German. Title translation: "Woman as Family Physician: A Physician's Reference Book." The chromolithographic plates are superb. The author (1856-1917) was herself a pioneering Austrian doctor, author and reformer.
