Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Vera Willoughby (illustrator). 1st Edition. Published simultaneously in the UK and US in an edition limited to 999 copies, this being number 282. This is an attractive book with an elegant typeface used (Rudolph Koch's Kursiv), nice paper (Pannekoek), and highly competent printing (Curwen Press). There's a Preface by the editor and an Index of Authors and First Lines. A major attraction of the book is the eight full page, delicately colored drawings of the Hungarian-born British artist, Vera Willoughby (1870-1939). Amongst many other artistic endeavors, she produced a splendid book in 1925 called "A Vision of Greece" and did some beautiful posters for the London Underground in the early 30's. The green vellum spine is a little faded with the gilt lettering dulled. Decorated paper covered boards are worn on corners, unevenly browned, and there's a three inch line of pink staining to upper board. A bookplate on front pastedown reveals a previous owner to have been LeRoy Provins, an obscure author of a 1958 book, "So You Want To Be a New Yorker". Still a very good tight copy and a lot of book for $16. MC.
