This book recounts the life of Charles Brown McKinney, a Texas Ranger and later sheriff of LaSalle County. He was struck down in the prime of his life in the performance of his duty: "In the Protection of Outraged Female Innocence" as expressed on his tombstone monument. He was ambushed by James White who was to be arrested for a criminal assault upon a little 11 year old girl. The book is well researched and well written Texas history.
