Add to basketHalf Leather. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. Title concludes: 'and to the whole is subjoined, a Correct edition of the original, with the various readings, and some useful annotations by an antiquary'. ix, 81, 1 (ads.) pp. along with 10 pages of very neat contemporary ink manuscript notes. A scarce book originally published in an edition of just 250 copies. With a provenance of having come out of the library of Henry B. H. Beaufoy with his bookplate pasted to the front paste-down. In period marble-papered boards - leather to corners. The spine appears to have been re-backed in the nineteenth or early twentieth century with five raised bands and gilt embossed text. The book bound with ten pages of manuscript notes to the rear and, a neat ink provenance for them in probably another hand along with signature I can't read. The manuscript additions apply to the above title but also to Cooke's Patriarchal and Druidical Religion - the manuscript additions for this are according to this information by the Rev'd Joshua (?) Greene who was presumably also responsible for the manuscript additions to this title. Perhaps still more interestingly, most of the final three pages of notes describe in great detail the practice of bull-fighting in Spain - this could well appeal to a collector of books/ephemera on bull-fighting. Toning to the corners of the paste-downs and endpapers - appears to be the result of some acidity in the glue used on the leather corners - with slight paper loss to the rear endpaper. 3 ink letters stamped to the front paste-down. Some splitting to both the front and rear hinges - though boards remain firm. A little rubbing to the leather on the outer hinge. Rubbing to paper of marbled boards. Slight paper loss to inner hinge corner of the rear endpaper. Slight or light scattered foxing perhaps most noticable to the title page - but not heavy. The margins remain good. A very good copy of a scarce publication with unique and charming manuscript notes.
