Il Flechia (Piverone, Ivrea, 1811-ivi, 1892), professore di sanscrito a Torino, Senatore dal 1891, fu uno dei maggiori esponenti del grande fermento di studi orientalistici dell'Ottocento italiano. Eletto nel 1848 deputato al Parlamento toscano, fu nominato con decreto granducale Segretario del Ministero dell'Interno allora retto dal Guerrazzi. Emigrato poi a Roma, e ancora dopo in Corsica, che perlustrò a lungo con il Gregorovius, si fissò successivamente a Torino e, infine, a Genova, dove rimase per il resto della vita attendendo soprattutto a compilazioni geografiche.
