No reading lean to the binding. No reading creases. Internally also very good, with a neat ownership inscription at the top of the first printed page. Pages clean with no internal foxing. No creases or tears. Spine tight. No dustwrapper (as issued). ***260 pages plus three pages of publisher's adverts at the back of the book. 197mm x 130mm. ***'This edition of Johnson's poems includes all his English poems, and a selection from his Latin poems and from "Irene", his single attempt at verse drama. Also included is the first draft of "The Vanity of Human Wishes", and a selection of contributions to poems by other authors. The editor describes the aim of the edition as "to provide a truly critical text in which the characteristics of Johnson's own practices in spelling, punctuation and capitalization are preserved, whilst at the same time his final authoritative revisions --- have been admitted. A feature of Dr Fleeman's extensive annotation is the use throughout of Johnson's own "Dictionary of the English Language" as a guide to the poet's precise meaning.' (Quote taken from the back cover) ***A second printing of the first edition of the "Penguin English Poets" edition of the Complete English Poems" of Samuel Johnson, in nice original condition. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
